 ORIGIN There are two stories about the origin of New Year:-   1st story - New Year wasn’t always celebrated on 1st Jan. The earliest New Year celebrations date back to about 4,000 years ago. DUSSEHRA-THE VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL

 Dussehra also known as Vijayadashami, Dasara or Dashain. The festival is celebrated at the end of Navratri every year. The festival is celebrated differently in various parts of the Indian subcontinent.  In southern, eastern,  northestern part it is believed that Vijayadashami is the end of Durga puja  remembering Goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore dharma.  In the northern, central and western states, the festival is called Dussehra. Mata Mahagauri represents Mata Parvati in her phase of recovery. She is the Goddess of Beauty and women. She has the powers to fulfill all the desires of her devotees. Her devotees get relief from all their sufferings in life. Mantra:-  श्वेते वृषे समारुढा श्वेताम्बरधरा शुचिः। महागौरी शुभं दघान्महादेवप्रमोददा॥ Her weapons are-Trident (Trishul), Tambourine (Damaru), Abhayamudra and Varada mudra. Her name means exceptionally bright with a shine like the Moon. She is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri.   She is the seventh form of goddess Durga. She is widely known as one of the most destructive forms of the mother goddess, which include Kali, Mahakali, Bhadrakali, Bhairavi, Mrityu, Rudrani, Chamunda, Chandi and Durga. She is worshipped during the ninie nights of Navratri celebrations. The seventh day is devoted to her and her appearance itself invokes fear. NAVRATRI SERIES: DAY 6-> MATA KATYAYANI

 She is the sixth form of Navratri. She is known as a  slayer of the horrible demon Mahishasura. She is an avatar of mata Durga. She mounts on a lion. Her weapons are: Khadaga (longsword), Padma or Lotus. Her planet is Jupiter. She is first mentioned in the Taittiriya Aranyaka part of the Yajurveda. Skanda Purana mentions her being created out of the spontaneous anger of Gods, which eventually led to slaying the demon, Mahishasura, mounted on the lion.  MATA CHANDRAGHANTA Chandraghanta means “one who has a half-moon shaped like a bell. Her third eye is always opened and she is always ready for war against demons.” She is the third form of Mata Durga, worshipped on the third day of Navratri. She is also known as Chandika, Rannchandi and Chandrakhanda. She is known for rewarding people with her grace, courage and bravery.
