Egyptian Mythology

In the many nations of the world, no one would deny that ancient Egypt has a lot of stories to tell. You will be fascinated to know that an ample amount of interesting elements are there in the history of this great nation. But a better thing is the insight of ancient Egypt and her incredibly imaginative inhabitants happen to be myths. Egyptian Mythology is considered to be the epicenter of the ancient Egyptian culture. It consists of powerful gods to whom sacrifices and rituals were given. Isis, Osiris, Ra and Horus are some of them .The Egyptians were able to export their religion and culture through their trade links. 
This post contains many features of mythology which include Dieties and the creation of the world. It gives great insight and the interest to read the prehistoric Egyptian society. Egyptian belief and religion were transported with the spread of trade, hugely after the opening of the Silk Road after 130 B.C.E. For other cultures, the major distinctive feature of Egyptian Mythology was the eternal life after death concept (proved by the daily life things of the kings’ and queens’ tomb) and reincarnation. Greek philosophers like Plato and Pythagoras were believed to be inspired by the belief of reincarnation in Egyptian Mythology. Religious cultures from Egypt were largely adopted by the Romans as they did from other civilisations also. For the Egyptians, humanity’s existence was believed to be just a tiny part in the journey to eternity. The presence of somebody in this world was a part of the eternal journey, it was also a dawn of something ahead. The afterlife for Egyptians was like a mirror-world of someone’s life on Earth, specifically in Egypt. If a person wanted to enjoy the rest part of his/her eternal journey, he was compelled to live his life correctly.
Creation Of The World: The creation of the world out of chaos and obscurity was where the journey began. There was nothing at the beginning other than infinite dark water, devoid of form or purpose. Atum lived on the top of the confused surface of Ben-Ben (the primeval hill) and observed the emptiness and his loneliness. He procreated with his shadow to produce two descendants – Tefnut (Goddess of Moisture) (vomited out by Atum) and Shu (God of Air) (spat out by Atum). Tefnut gave the principles of order, on the other hand Shu gave the principles of life. These children went out to create the world, now their father Atum was again left lonely on Ben-Ben. After sometime Atum became anxious because his children took a very long time. He sent his one eye to look for them. Shu & Tefnut came back with his one eye.

Atum shed tears of happiness as his children returned. His tears fell on the dark surface of Ben-Ben thereby producing men and women. They had no place to go. Tefnut and Shu mated and bore the goddess Nut (the Sky) and the god Geb (the Earth). Then, as they grew up the siblings became lovers. Atum was unable to accept this behavior, so he took Nut into the Heavens, far from Geb. Both lovers had clear views of one another but they could not touch each other. Nut gave birth to Set, Osiris, Isis and Nephthys which are the prominent Egyptian Gods. Osiris was considered a wise god and probably why Atum gave him rule over the world.
